◆ LGMV, for the first time in LIXIL Housing Technology, utilizes the international renewable energy certificate (I-REC) to contribute to CO2 emissions reduction.

LGMV has been committed to CO2 reduction through continuous productivity improvements and energy-saving activities in line with LIXIL's Environmental Vision 2050. However, in recent years, Vietnam has experienced a situation where the CO2 emission factor of electricity has worsened and CO2 emissions have increased due to the rapid industrialization and the increase in coal-fired power generation.

This time, LIXIL Housing Technology has purchased the international renewable energy certificate known as "I-REC" certificate for the first time. The "I-REC" certificate allows the purchase of renewable energy value such as wind and hydropower generation within Vietnam, which can offset the CO2 emissions from the electricity currently being used. It is a renewable energy certificate that can also be used by organizations such as SBT, CDP, and RE100.

For this initiative, a three-year contract was implemented with Tokyo Electric Energy Partner Inc., which offers the most competitive price among multiple vendors and is expected to have future increases in certificate prices. The purchased certificate amount corresponds to 30% of the factory's electricity consumption, which is 15,000 MWh, and it is estimated to result in an annual CO2 reduction effect of approximately 10,000 tons (about 20% reduction).

Furthermore, in the current period, LGMV plans to utilize the factory roof space and install an on-site solar power purchase agreement (PPA) to further advance CO2 reduction. The company aims to continue reducing its carbon footprint.

※ I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate) is an internationally recognized renewable energy certificate issued in approximately 50 countries worldwide.
